Explore the Pyramid !!

A nutrition web activity and PowerPoint project
for 2nd grade students
Introduction │Your Job │ Links │Rubric │Early Finishers
Have you heard about the new pyramid? Have you wondered why we can't eat candy and drink soft drinks at school anymore? Do you know why we have P.E. twice a week instead of only once each week this year? Well, after completing this activity you'll understand why our school district made some changes this year so that we can all be healthier.
You will each research one of the food groups on the pyramid and explain to your class through a PowerPoint presentation what you have found. Together you will discuss the questions above and see if you better understand the decisions that were made by our state and our school district.
You will need to find out the following information for your presentation:
1. What is the name of your food group?
2. What foods belong to your group?
3. What do these foods do for your body?
4. What vitamins or minerals is the food high in?
5. How much of this food does your body (6-11 year old) need?
6. What are some "fun facts" about your food group or the foods in it?
7. What recipes are high in foods from your group?
8. What changes can you make in your afternoon schedule to be able to add more activity to your life.
Use the links below to find your information. Make sure you cite your source if you get information from a website.
